Alvin’s Jewelers is a family owned company dedicated to providing customers with outstanding service and quality jewelry at affordable prices.

In 1870, Alvin’s parents, Samuel and Ida established a jewelry and manufacturing company in Poland. Ida traveled through the country in a horse-drawn carriage selling the product. Samuel managed the company operation in town. In 1918 Samuel and his two sons, Alvin and Wilfred, emigrated to the United States while Ida and two daughters maintained the business in Warsaw.

Drawn to Cleveland as the heart of the nation, Samuel set up a retail jewelry store at East 37th and Woodland while living in the back room of the store with his sons. Alvin and his brother began to finish their schooling while selling balloons and newspapers on the street to help out.

In 1923, Samuel and his sons became citizens and their business began to show a modest profit. A year later, Ida and two daughters joined them in Cleveland. Alvin worked as a watch-maker and salesman at a downtown jewelry store, eventually becoming manager. He began to foster his dream of having his own jewelry store.

That dream came true in 1931 after Alvin had saved $600. Then in the middle of the Great Depression, Alvin opened his first store at 55th and Broadway. In 1934 Alvin married Edith, who became his partner in business and life. They worked together to build their business. Their children, Larry, Richard and Marcia assisted during the holidays and summers, selling, wrapping and sweeping floors to help out and learn the business.

Now Alvin’s Jewelers is celebrating their 77th year. Having 13 locations in the northern Ohio area, Alvin’s is still owned and operated by the same family. Four generations later, Alvin’s grandchildren, Chad, David and Lisa are proud to continue their grandfather’s dream by offering greater Clevelanders a selection of quality jewelry and outstanding service.
